What's happening at Mumbai's hotels? A peek into the party circuit and events in the city...

Jazzle Dazzle

Sonali and Roop Kumar Rathod at the 100 Pipers Legends Live night at Hilton Towers

Jazz and Oberoi Towers have always gone together. With the changeover to Hilton Towers music lovers are happy to note that the sound synergy still continues. Along with 100 Pipers, it presented Legends Live, the fourth of a series of jazz nights that kicked off in New Delhi, moving to Ludhiana and Chandigarh and now from Mumbai going to Kolkata, Hyderabad and Bangalore. The night belonged to the Jonas Hellborg Group from Sweden with legendary bassist Jonas Hellborg teaming with Mattias Ia Eklundh on guitar and Niclas Campagnol on drums. The trio enthralled the audience who also appreciated the smooth Scotch. Appreciative musicians in the house included Ranjit Barot, Gary Lawyer, Mehnaz, Vasundhara Das, Merlin D'Souza, Don Saigal and daughter Sonia, both keen jazz exponents in their own right, and ghazal couple Roop Kumar Rathod and wife Sonali. Also seen were Anil Chopra and wife Sabina and Consul General of Germany Hans-Heinrich Freiherr Von Stackelberg. Mumbai is his first Asian assignment as a diplomat and he seems to enjoy the buzz and the start of the jazz season in the city.

Launch Pad

Kareena Kapoor, brand ambassador of Garnier, at Taj Lands End

Five-star hotels have always been happy venues for launches and endorsements. Taj Lands End was the chosen hotel for Garnier India to announce hazel-eyed filmstar Kareena Kapoor as its brand ambassador. She was chosen for her distinctive attitude, style and iconic status among the youth of India. Shown was a new campaign with Kareena endorsing Garnier Nutrisse hair colour. She sported the frosted brown shade from the True Brown range that included golden mahogany brown. At ITC Grand Central it was time for Pantech, South Korea's second largest mobile phone manufacturer, to launch a range of mobile handsets exclusively for Tata Indicom. Present at the launch was J B Chin, senior VP, sales & marketing, Pantech, DJ Shin, GM, Pantech India and Dr. Mukund Rajan, director, Tate Teleservices Ltd. And showing off the new handset was model Cyndy Khojol. Meanwhile, the spacious banquet venue Blue Sea was the ideal place to roll in the sleek cars. It was the launch of two new sleek cars from Porsche. Introduced were the all-new 911 type Carrera 4 and Carrera 4S all-wheel-drive coupes. Present was Deesch Papke, MD, Porsche, Middle East & Africa and Ashish Chordia, CEO, Shreyans Motors, Porsche Centre, Mumbai. And the talk was on driving dynamics that has been unleashed in India.

Sound Check

Onjolie, Pooja Bhatt and Mummun at the Channel [V] night at Squeeze

An extempore performance by Bappi Lahiri was the highlight of the Channel [V] night at Squeeze. He almost upstaged the earlier performers, Manasi Scott and Abbey, who were the scheduled singers with their names prominently mentioned on the red invitation card that came with a pair of red goggles and red hair glow. Of course, nobody was daring enough to sport that. Host Amar K Deb of Channel [V] was a happy man indeed at the decent turnout and unexpected performance. If it's a Channel [V] party, naturally, you can't do without the many VJs. There was Juhi, Pia, Tina and Purab with DJ Akshay in the mix. Enjoying the experience was Pooja Bhatt with husband Manish, actors Onjalie and Munmun, Sanjay Gupta, Rohan Sippy, Sanjay Maroo, Nina Manuel, Luke Kenny, Shibani Kashyap and Achala Sachdev. DJ Akhtar Fazel of Insomnia sported a T-shirt that read 'Same Same' in the front and on the back 'But Different.' That told the story of the night.
