KTDC To Develop Properties In Alappuzha & Kannur

EH&C Staff - Mumbai

The Kerala Tourism Development Corporation (KTDC) is to set-up three-star hotels in Alappuzha and Kannur and is to upgrade Hotel Chaitram into a three-star hotel as part of its Rs 145 crore hotel expansion agenda of which Rs 40 crore will be spent in the areas of Alappuzha, Kannur and Kovalam.

According to Pandalam Sudhakaran, chairman, KTDC, “The KTDC is unarguably the government owned largest hotel chain with over 60 properties in the state. To keep pace with the growing international and domestic tourist arrivals to the state, the organisation is endeavouring to increase the number of KTDC owned properties and upgrade existing properties to pristine quality and standard by providing modern facilities and good service.”

Both the hotels are being constructed as an estimated cost of Rs 9 crore. It would have 50 rooms each. Work on the projects has commenced and it is expected to be completed shortly. The upgradation of the Hotel Chaithram is to cost another Rs 9 crore.

Also on cards in the upgradation plans of KTDC is the Hotel Samudra – which to shortly sport a massive conference hall. “MICE is a growing segment in Kerala, therefore the management has decided that the new properties and upgraded hotels will have conference halls ,” Sudhakaran further stated.
