The HR Question Of Commonwealth Games 2010
Jyoti Koul - New Delhi
With all stakeholders gearing up for the Commonwealth Games 2010 to be held
in Delhi, the hospitality industry will not only prove to be a target for investments
but also a huge fertile ground for human resources.
The event will generate a demand of approximately 20,000 guests to be accommodated
per day in the capital city. In order to cater to such a large number, manpower
and accommodation are areas which are posing a great challenge right now.
As part of infrastructure building human resource development is crucial. According
to experts while preparations are going on at every quarter no one is actually
addressing the issue of skilled manpower. Says Virender S Dutta, president,
Hospitality Management Support Services, "The industry has to work within
a time frame of just four years, so we will have to start now as HR is the weakest
point at the moment."
He added, "As far as HR is concerned there is nothing new on the horizon.
We have to innovate techniques and practices that are highly efficient. There
is great scope to develop entry level cadre like kitchen stewarding as no one
is really training them and there is always shortage of such staff. We must
realise that the event is an opportunity for us to create future manpower." |
