Bar Hop
The
cheer continues in Mumbai with the birth of two bars and eateries. The Sports
Bar raced into Colaba while Purple Haze splashed its colours in Bandra. Cheer
leading girls, blondes at the bar, soft rock and retro music set the mood at
opening night at The Sports Bar, along with spirits and finger foods. Galaxy
Entertainment Corporation Limited, a joint venture between the Chatterjee Group
and the Ruias of Phoenix Mills, presented the Sports Bar, at Regal cinema building.
With several televisions, plasma screens and wall-embedded television monitors
it seems the ideal place to catch all the sporting action. A long bar, pool
table, basketball hoops, dartboards and punching bags are part of the delightful
decor that has a racetrack from beginning to end.
Purple Haze, on the other hand, is positioned as a world
grill restaurant and lounge bar, split over two levels. Pride of place is the
stairway shaped like the strings of a harp, joining the dining area on the upper
level to the lounge below. Shades of violet, magenta, lavender and mauve greet
you while the floor to ceiling mirrors make the place look bigger as well as
offers a view of the diners and the dance floor.
Glow Flow
Looking
good is Health & Glow, a chain of health and beauty stores in Mumbai. The
flagship store is in Colaba, others are located in InOrbit Mall, Malad and Nirmal
Lifestyle, Mulund. This is a venture of RPG Enterprises, a tie-up with Guardian
Ltd, Singapore of the Dairy Farm International retail chain, a Jardine Matheson
Group (Fortune 500) company. The company started operations in Chennai in February
1997 and has evolved from a drugstore to a complete beauty and health player
operating from Bangalore (13 stores) Chennai (seven stores) and Hyderabad (five
stores). It offers consumers a world-class selection of health and beauty products,
no-questions asked returns policy, high level of advice on usage of the products.
There is a full service pharmacy with all major drugs and antibiotics. Globally,
the format followed by Heath & Glow is a favourite shopping destination
for millions as seen from the popularity of their international partner stores
in Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Indonesia and Taiwan.
Winter Haute
The
city got a whiff of what is in store this winter with the launch of the Fall/Winter
2004 collection by designers Kavita Bhartia, Rohit Gandhi and Rahul Khanna of
Cue and H2O and Ranna Gill, all at the store 7 BEST Marg, Colaba. Filmstar Mumtaz,
designer Pallavi Jaikishan, models Upen Pael and Niketan Madhok were some of
the guests on preview evening. Kavita Bhartias collection aims at simpler
silhouettes with an asymmetrical treatment of the embroidery placement, textures
and choice of fabrics with different textures and treatments that lend an extra
element to an otherwise simple ensemble. Rohit Gandhi and Rahul Khanna focussed
on an unconventional amalgamation of fabrics keeping in mind style, quality,
wearability and finish with look that can be best described as retro chic. Ranna
Gills collection lies at the crossroads of the Moroccan, Egyptian and
Mediterranean worlds, a melting pot of different civilizations.
