SAMS IHM Receives ISO 9001:2000 Certification
EH&C Staff - Varanasi
Becomes The Only ISO Certified Institute In North-Eastern
India
SAMS Institute of Hotel Management, Varanasi, Uttar
Pradesh, has been awarded with the ISO 9001:2000 certification. The decision
to apply for the certification, according to the institutes management,
is one of the attempts to identify itself as an institute dedicated to offering
quality hospitality education in the country. Starting operations in 1998, the
institute was set up to inculcate a job-oriented hospitality education in totality.
Raj
Kumar Singh, director of the institute, expressed, Despite a theoretical
capability par excellence and almost at par capability at practical front we
were missing international acceptance for our students though most of the leading
organisations of India and South East Asia have been recruiting our students.
We felt that we were missing on some aspect which could further enhance our
international recognition. Thus, the board of SAMS institute unanimously decided
to go for an international hallmark - a certification of global repute, ISO
9001:2000.
Singh added that after scrutinising the students and
the institutes approach to hospitality education for two academic years,
the Punjab Technical University ultimately awarded us the laurel. Now
we are the second affiliated and authorised organisation in UP to offer
BSc and MSc in Hotel Management programmes, he
said. SAMS also has a tie-up with the Educational Institute of American Hotel
& Lodging Association (EI-AH&LA) for their short-term courses. This,
according to Singh, played an important role in attaining the ISO 9001:2000
certification.
